KU Boys Soccer Hires Trevor Petersen

Klamath Union sports have had a couple of coaching changes this season. One of those changes includes the boys soccer team’s head coach. Coach Seth Johnston resigned this year, handing the reins over to Trevor Petersen. The team would like to thank Coach Seth for his dedication; they will miss his enthusiasm and love for the team and the game. His successor, Trevor Petersen, played at the collegiate level and has coached for 15 years. KU boys soccer is super excited about the new opportunity that comes with this transition and has already learned so much. Along with Petersen comes a new assistant coach, Greg Morton, who has coached at Henley for the past few years and helped them achieve great success.

Coming into the season, Petersen and the team had high hopes, wanting to compete late into the postseason. Petersen said, “We have a passionate young team that competed extremely hard this year and will only get better in the future”. Unfortunately, they came up just short in a loss at their home state play-in game against Gladstone, after conceding a goal in the last 5 minutes. Gladstone went on to nearly upset Henley, the number 1 team in the state. Although sad about the loss, the team has a lot to be proud of, “We experienced a lot of growth this season” Petersen says.

A few things to be proud of are a winning record prior to postseason, ending ranked 15th in the state, and a 2-1 win against Phoenix, the first win against them in over ten years. Petersen described the feeling after the Phoenix game as “euphoric.” He also spoke about the success of the team,  “The boys put in so much extra work and effort this summer which helped them achieve success during our preseason as well as into league play.”

Several members of the team had an amazing season, receiving state recognition. Jake Federico, the team's only senior, and Caleb Morton both received 1st Team All-Conference recognition, and Bryce Peterson made 2nd Team All-Conference.

With all but one senior returning, Coach Petersen and the team are looking forward to next season with tremendous hope and excitement!
